Changing Colors of Bodies, Faces, Edges, and Body Groups
3D-CAD allows you to rename and assign colors to bodies, body groups, faces, and edges. You can also import colors from files that were created in other commercial CAD packages.
- Select a body or body group to which you want to assign a color.
-
Right-click on the solid body and select
Color.
The Color Bodies panel appears on the left of the Graphic window.
- In the Color Bodies panel, click on Body Color and choose a color from the Change Color dialog.
-
To add transparency to the body, adjust the
Body Opacity level. By default, the opacity value is set to 1.0.
You cannot import transparency from other commercial CAD packages in 3D-CAD.
To rename and assign colors to a face or edge:
- Select a face or edge to which you want to assign a color.
-
Right-click on a face and select Color.
The Rename and Color Faces panel appears on the left of the Graphic window.
- In the Name box, enter the new name for the face.
-
To add additional faces:
- Click in the Select Faces box then select them in the graphics window.
-
To select a filter, click the
(Object Selector) icon on the right of the selection box. Make further selections in the object selection panel then click the
icon again when done.
- In the Rename and Color Faces panel, click on Face Color and choose a color from the Change Color dialog.
-
If you want Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to assign
unique names to a set of faces, then activate the Make Face Names
Unique option.
This option is useful if you are working with large models and you want the 3D-CAD modeler to automatically assign names to a set of faces or edges.
For example, if you have three faces in a selection set/filter, and you rename the set of faces to Pipe Sidewall and activate the Make Face Names Unique option. 3D-CAD automatically renames the faces to: Pipe Sidewall, Pipe Sidewall 2, Pipe Sidewall 3.
To assign colors to a named face or edge:
- Within the Body Groups node, expand the relevant node.
-
Set the color using one of the following methods:
- Select the node and modify the Color property.
- Right-click the node, choose Color, and then set the color in the dialog.
-
To see the colors of the named entities in the graphics window, in the
Visibility toolbar, activate the
Named Faces or Named Edges as
