Working with Custom Name Attributes
In 3D-CAD, custom names for bodies, faces, and edges are time-stamped to improve robustness when modifying the geometry.
Renaming these objects in 3D-CAD creates a hidden rename attribute feature in the 3D-CAD feature tree. Deleting a custom name also adds a delete name attribute feature in the feature tree. By default, these name attribute features are hidden.
Additionally, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates a hidden attribute feature in the 3D-CAD feature tree if you assign colors to a face/body or use the Flatten body group feature.
- Right-click the Features node in the 3D-CAD feature tree and select Show Attribute Features or Hide Attributes Features. These options are only available in the feature menu if the CAD model has rename attributes.
- Right-click the attribute features and select Edit. The Rename Feature panel appears.
- To modify a custom name, select faces from the Renamed Entities list.
The selected faces are highlighted in the 3D-CAD View scene.
- To rename a custom name:
- Click Rename selected entities, enter a new name in the Rename dialog, and click OK.
- Edit the name that appears in the Assigned Name column and press <Enter>.
- In the Rename Feature panel, the Make Face or Edge Names Unique option is read-only. If you want to use this option, see Changing Colors of Bodies, Faces, Edges, and Body Groups.
- To restore original names, click Restore original names of selected entities.
- To rename entities while the Rename Feature panel is active, right-click the entity in the 3D-CAD View window and rename it.
The custom name is added to the Rename Feature panel.
- Click the title of a column to sort the content in the Rename Feature panel.
Delete the custom name attribute from the feature tree to permanently remove the custom name. Suppress the custom name attribute in the feature tree to temporarily remove the custom name.
