Creating Design Filters

In 3D-CAD, you can construct design filters that store a selection of the same geometric entity (that is, body, body group, face, edge, or vertex). These filters provide you with quick access to the selections in other contexts.

The benefits of creating a design filter are that they:
  • Save you a considerable amount of time by not needing to repeat a selection process for the same set of entities
  • Allow you to use the geometric entities stored in the filter in subsequent operations
  • Allow you to present the geometric entities in a table list where you can review and use them as inputs to 3D-CAD features
  1. To create a design filter:
    • In the 3D-CAD View scene, right-click a body, body group, face, edge, or vertex and select Create Filter.
    • Right-click a geometric entity in the 3D-CAD simulation tree and select Create Filter.
This action creates a [design filter] node under the Design Filters node in the 3D-CAD tree.

  2. If you want to edit or add search criteria conditions to the filter, right-click the [design filter] node and select Edit Filter.

The Search Tool panel appears on the right side of the graphics window containing the geometric entities stored in the filter. See Search Tool.

The following image shows design filters with and without conditions.

  3. To view the geometric entities in a table list, right-click the [design filter] node and select Show Filter Table.

The filter table appears between the 3D-CAD simulation tree and the 3D-CAD View scene. See Search Criteria and Results.

  4. To use the geometric entities as inputs to 3D-CAD features, right-click the [design filter] node and choose the target feature.
This action updates the [design filter] icon under the Design Filters node in the 3D-CAD tree indicating that the filter is being used.
