Viewing Dependency Information of Features and Bodies

Use the dependency viewer to see what features a particular feature, body, or design parameter depends on, and what impact these have on the rest of the geometry. The dependency viewer is especially useful when you want to delete a body or feature.

To view the dependencies of a feature or body:
  1. Choose the feature or body that you want to view the dependencies on:
    • In the 3D-CAD feature tree, right-click the body or feature and select Show Dependencies.
    • In the 3D-CAD View scene, right-click the body or feature and select Body/Feature > Show Dependencies.
    The Dependencies panel appears.

In this panel, the features that depend on the feature/body that you selected are listed under the Dependents group box. The features that the selected feature/body depends on are listed under the Depends On group box.

You can position the Dependencies panel anywhere in the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ workspace.

The information displayed in the Dependencies panel does not change or update when you select other features in the 3D-CAD feature tree or graphics window. To display the dependency information for a different feature or body, repeat Step 1 for the desired feature.

NoteWhile the Dependencies panel is open, you cannot create or edit features in 3D-CAD.
  2. In the Dependencies panel:
    1. Select a feature from either the Dependents or Depends On lists.
The relevant feature is highlighted in the 3D-CAD View scene as well as in the 3D-CAD feature tree.
    2. Double-click a feature to view features and bodies that are dependent on that feature, as well as to see what that feature depends on.
  3. To continue working on the 3D-CAD model, click Close in the Dependencies panel.
