Metadata in 3D-CAD Reference

Within 3D-CAD there are a number of different display options, actions, and filters available within the Metadata Table. These allow you to visualize, edit, and sort the metadata assigned to the bodies within the 3D-CAD model tree.

Metadata Display Options

The following options are available within the Metadata dialog. These allow you to modify the 3D-CAD View scene to analyze the existing metadata within the model.

Option Description
(Display Metadata As Sortable Table) Displays all metadata entries in a flat table. You can sort the table by clicking the columns present within the table.
(Display Metadata As Tree) Displays all metadata entries as a tree table.
(Isolate Selected Views) In the 3D-CAD View scene, displays only the bodies that are associated with the selected metadata.
(Set Focus On Selected Results) Centers the selected entry in the 3D-CAD View scene.
(Expand Tree) Expands all body nodes to display the metadata entries associated to the bodies present within the table.
(Collapse Tree) Collapses all body nodes to hide the the metadata entries associated to the bodies present within the table.
(Set filters) Allows you to open the Filter Metadata sub-panel. In this sub-panel you can filter the metadata table using the predefined predicates.

Metadata Action Options

The following properties are available within the Add Metadata and Edit Metadata sub-panels. These allow you to edit the metadata present on the model.

Object Type
Allows you to specify the object to which the metadata is applied. Only available for the Add Metadata right-click action.
Metadata Object
Allows you to select the body or body group object to which the metadata is applied from the 3D-CAD model tree. Only available for the Add Metadata right-click action.
Value Type
Allows you to specify the metadata data-type. There are six options available for this:
  • Boolean
  • Integer
  • Real
  • Array
  • Map
  • String
Key
Allows you to specify the key used for the metadata entry.
Value
Allows you to specify the metadata value. For Map objects it is advised you format the value for ease of viewing and editing. For Boolean objects there are two value options:
  • True
  • False

Filter Options and Predicates

The following filter options and predicates are available within the Filter Metadata sub-panel and allow you to filter the metadata table according to the assigned key and value properties.

Filter Key
Allows you to filter the metadata table by the Key name.
Filter Value
Allows you to filter the metadata table by the Value
Predicate Description
Any Includes all metadata entries.
Contains Includes all entries with names or values that contain the specified text string.
Does Not Contain Includes all entries with names or values that do not contain the specified text string.
Matches Includes all entries with names that match the specified text string.
Does not Match Includes all objects with names that do not match the specified text string.
Starts With Includes all objects with names that begin with the specified text string.
Does Not Start With Includes all objects with names that do not begin with the specified text string.
Ends With Includes all objects with names that end with the specified text string.
Does Not end With Includes all objects with names that do not end with the specified text string.
Above Includes all entries which have a value above the specified value.
Below Includes all entries which have a value below the specified value.
Between Includes all entries which have a value between the specified values.
Not Between Includes all entries which have a value outside of the specified values.

Metadata Table Right-click Actions

The following right-click actions are available within the metadata table.

Copy Value
Allows you to copy the selected value entry. This can then be used in the rest of the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ user interface, including the metadata filter sub-panel.
Copy Key
Allows you to copy the selected key entry. This can then be used in the rest of the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ user interface, including the metadata filter sub-panel.
Edit Value
Allows you to edit the Value and Value Type for the selected metadata entry.
Add Metadata
Allows you to add a new metadata entry to the table.
Delete Metadata
Allows you to delete one or more metadata entries from the table.
