Selecting the Physics Models

Physics models define the physical variables and phenomena in the simulation. In this tutorial, the air is described by the ideal gas law and turbulence is accounted for by the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model.

The Spalart-Allmaras model is a simple one-equation turbulence model is popular for use in modeling aerodynamic flows due to its robustness and ease of implementation.

To define the physics models:
  1. Rename the existing continuum, Continua > Physics 1, to Fluid.
  2. Right-click the Continua > Fluid node and select Select Models....
  3. In the Fluid Model Selection dialog, select the following models in order:
    Group Box Model
    Space Three-Dimensional (already selected)
    Time Steady
    Material Gas
    Flow Coupled Flow
    Enabled Models Gradients (selected automatically)
    Equation of State Ideal Gas
    Viscous Regime Turbulent
    Turbulence Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (selected automatically)
    Reynolds-Averaged Turbulence Spalart-Allmaras Turbulence
Enabled Models Standard Spalart-Allmaras (selected automatically)
All y+ Wall Treatment (selected automatically)
    Wall Distance (selected automatically)
  4. Click Close.
  5. Save the simulation.
