Exchanged Fields Reference
You specify exported and imported fields using predefined fields or auxiliary fields.
Exported Fields/Imported Fields Node Right-Click Actions
- under co-simulation zones:
Imported Fields
, - under the link:
Imported Fields
,
- Add Flow Field
- Only available in co-simulation zones.
- Add Auxiliary Field
- Allows you to add a scalar auxiliary field, for export or import of any single-value field function. See Specifying Co-Simulation Settings in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
[Exported Field] Properties
The field nodes under the Exported Fields node have the following properties:
- Initialization Method
-
- For fields that are exported using co-simulation zones, this property is automatically set to User-defined Initialization Value. Specify an initialization value under the node.
- For single values that are not exported under a zone, this property is automatically set to Constant Value. No action is required.
- Field Stencil
-
- For fields that are exported using co-simulation zones, this
property specifies the stencil on the coupled boundaries mesh
(either Vertex,
Face, or
Cell), from which Simcenter STAR-CCM+ maps the field
data to be exported.
Depending on the field specification, you can either select the field native stencil or a different stencil. The native stencil is the location where Simcenter STAR-CCM+ computes the solution—its type depends on the specific field. For example, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ computes the pressure field at mesh faces, whereas the displacement field is computed at mesh vertices. When exporting data from the field native stencil, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ exports the original solution as computed at the native stencil. When exporting data from a different stencil, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ exports the solution data interpolated to the chosen stencil.
- For single values that are not exported under a zone, this property is automatically set to Single Value.
- For fields that are exported using co-simulation zones, this
property specifies the stencil on the coupled boundaries mesh
(either Vertex,
Face, or
Cell), from which Simcenter STAR-CCM+ maps the field
data to be exported.
- Field Treatment
-
- For predefined fields that are exported using co-simulation zones, this property is automatically set to Managed. This setting indicates that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically averages the fields to the single-value data required by Simcenter Amesim before export.
- For auxiliary fields or single values that are not exported under a zone, this property is automatically set to Unmanaged. This setting indicates that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ does not perform any operation on the fields before export. Therefore, make sure that you export single-value quantities such as reports.
- Scalar Function
- Allows you to select the field functions that are exported to the partner simulation. For each exported field,
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ also adds two additional field functions:
- Simcenter Amesim Port #, which corresponds to the data exported to Simcenter Amesim port # at the current time-step.
- Simcenter Amesim Port # Previous Step, which corresponds to the data exported to Simcenter Amesim port # at the previous time-step.
[Imported Field] Properties
- Initialization Method
-
- For fields that are exported using co-simulation zones, this property is automatically set to User-defined Initialization Value. Specify an initialization value under the node.
- For single values that are not exported under a zone, this property is automatically set to Constant Value. No action is required.
- Field Stencil
-
- For fields that are imported using co-simulation zones, this property specifies the stencil on the coupled boundaries mesh (either Vertex, Face, or Cell), to which Simcenter STAR-CCM+ maps the imported field data.
- For single values that are not exported under a zone, this property is automatically set to Single Value.
- Field Treatment
-
- Managed:
Only available for predefined fields (mass flow and pressure). This option is not available for auxiliary fields. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically applies the imported field to the coupled boundaries, setting the relevant boundary conditions and values as follows:
Imported Field Wall Boundary Conditions and Values Mass Flow Depending on the boundary type, either: - Mass Flow Rate
- Set to Interoperability, which indicates that the boundary value is automatically set using imported data.
or:
- Velocity Magnitude
- Set to Interoperability.
Pressure - Pressure
- Set to Interoperability.
- Unmanaged
You are responsible for setting all boundary conditions manually, using the field functions that store the imported data.
- Managed:
- Scalar Function
- Displays the field functions that store the data imported with this field. For each imported field,
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ adds two field functions:
- Simcenter Amesim Port #, which corresponds to the data imported from Simcenter Amesim port # at the current time-step.
- Simcenter Amesim Port # Previous Step, which corresponds to the data imported from Simcenter Amesim port # during the previous time-step
