Reporting and Monitoring with Plots

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ can dynamically monitor virtually any quantity while the solution develops.

To monitor a quantity, set up a report which defines the quantity of interest and the region parts to monitored. Define a monitor based on the report, which controls the update frequency and normalization characteristics. Finally, create an X-Y graph plot can from the monitor.

Use a report monitor to track the heat flux at the interface of the heated fin and surrounding air:

  1. Create a heat transfer report: right-click Reports and select New > Flow / Energy > Heat Transfer.
This creates a node called Heat Transfer 1 within the Reports node.
  2. Edit the Reports > Heat Transfer 1 > Parts property and select the Solid > Boundaries > Fin-Interface [Interface 1] node.
The setup for the report is now complete, and a monitor can be made from that report.
  3. Create a monitor and a plot from the report.
  4. Save the simulation.
