Steady Flow: Laminar and Turbulent Flow in an S-Bend
This tutorial demonstrates the flow of an incompressible gas through an s-bend of constant diameter (2 cm), for both laminar and turbulent flow. The first part of the tutorial covers the laminar flow, with a Reynolds number (Re) of 500, and the second part covers the turbulent flow, Re = 50,000. The same pipe geometry is used in both cases.

  - Steady Flow: Lid-Driven Cavity Flow
    This tutorial demonstrates the performance of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ in solving a traditional square lid-driven cavity flow. The problem geometry consists of a two-dimensional 1 m² cavity. The cavity is covered by an impermeable wall that moves in the x-direction with constant velocity of 1 m/s. A stretched quadrilateral mesh with 6400 cells is used.

Assigning a Part to a New Region

Assign the geometry part to a region. The inlet and outlet surfaces have been renamed in 3D-CAD, and are automatically assigned to separate boundaries.

Right-click the Parts > Fluid node and select Assign Parts to Regions.
In the Assign Parts to Regions dialog set:
- Region Mode (top drop-down) to Create a Region for Each Part.
- Boundary Mode (middle drop-down) to Create a Boundary for Each Part Surface.
Click Apply and then Close.

A new region has been created with boundaries defining the inlet, outlet, and main fluid volume.

Create a geometry scene. Use the mouse to rotate the model in the Graphics window to set up the view shown below.
Expand the Regions > Fluid > Boundaries node and select each of the boundary nodes to make sure that they have been specified correctly.
