Setting Boundary Conditions

The boundaries that represent the pipe are a wall (the pipe exterior wall) and an axis of symmetry (the center of the pipe). One end of the pipe is a velocity inlet, and the other end of the pipe is a pressure outlet.

At the inlet, you set the flow velocity to 0.5 m/s and set the volume fraction to 0.99 water and 0.01 hexane. In a high-turbulence case, turbulence intensity values typically range from 0.05 to 0.2. This simulation uses a turbulence intensity value of 0.1.

To set the boundary conditions:

  1. Edit the Regions > Region_2D > Boundaries > Body 1.In node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
Phase Conditions > Water > Physics Values
    Velocity Magnitude Value 0.5 m/s
    Volume Fraction Value 0.99
Phase Conditions > Hexane > Physics Values
    Maximum Diameter Value 0.003 m
    Minimum Diameter Value 0.002 m
    Velocity Magnitude Value 0.5 m/s
    Volume Fraction Value 0.01
Physics Conditions > Turbulence Specification Method Intensity + Length Scale
Physics Values > Turbulence Intensity Value 0.1
  2. Edit the Regions > Region_2D > Boundaries > Body 1.Out node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
Phase Conditions > Water > Physics Values
    Volume Fraction Value 1.0
Physics Conditions > Turbulence Specification Method Intensity + Length Scale
Physics Values > Turbulence Intensity 0.1
  3. Save the simulation.
