Setting Initial Conditions and Reference Values

The simulation requires initial conditions and reference values for gravity. The initial hexane droplet size distribution is uniform within a specified diameter range and zero outside the range.

To set the initial conditions and reference values:

  1. Edit the Continua > Physics 1 > Initial Conditions mode and set the following properties:
    Node Property Value
    Turbulence Intensity Value 0.1
Turbulence Specification Method Intensity + Length Scale
  2. Edit the Continua > Physics 1 > Models > Multiphase > Phases node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Water > Initial Conditions
    Volume Fraction Value 0.99
    Hexane > Initial Conditions
Particle Size Distribution Option Uniform distribution
    Maximum Diameter Value 0.003 m
    Minimum Diameter Value 0.002 m
    Volume Fraction Value 0.01
Set the reference values for the Physics 1 continuum. To simulate a vertical pipe, set the gravity vector along the X-axis. As the reference density is used to evaluate the buoyancy source term, it is set to the density of the water-hexane mixture. The density of hexane is 655 kg/m^3 and the volume fraction of hexane in the mixture is 0.01, so the mixture density is 996.5 kg/m^3.
  1. Edit the Continua > Physics 1 > Reference Values node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Gravity Value [-9.81, 0.0] m/s^2
    Reference Density Value 996.5 kg/m^3
  2. Save the simulation.
