Plotting the Cumulative Size Distribution
You extract the droplet size distribution data for the fluid region and then use the extracted data in a cumulative distribution plot.
You create a plot of the total volume of hexane against the droplet size distribution for the fluid region. Corresponding plots are available for the maximum diameter, Sauter mean diameter, total particle count, and for the normalized volume and particle count. The normalized values let you plot the percentages of hexane volume and hexane droplet count rather than the absolute values. You can also extract and plot the same data for boundaries.
For more information, see Plotting Particle Size Distributions for AMUSIG.
To plot the cumulative size distribution data:
-
Right-click the
node and select
.
You use the Regions option when you want to extract data from regions or geometry parts.
- Rename the Particle Size Distribution Table - Regions node to Droplet Size Distribution.
-
Select the
Droplet Size Distribution node and set the following properties:
Property Setting Parts Region_2D Phase Hexane Number of Bins 1000
- Right-click the Droplet Size Distribution node and select Extract.
-
To view the extracted data, right-click the
Droplet Size Distribution node again and select
Tabulate.
The extracted table has six data columns: Maximum Diameter, Sauter Mean Diameter, Particle Count, Particle Count - Normalized, Particle Volume, and Particle Volume - Normalized. An example is shown below:
- Right-click the Plots node and select .
- Rename the Monitor Plot 1 node to Cumulative Droplet Size Distribution.
- Right-click the Add Data. node and select
- In the Add Data Providers to Plot dialog, select and then click OK.
-
Select the
node and set the following properties:
Node Property Setting Droplet Size Distribution Y Column Particle Volume Accumulate Y-Values Activated X Column Maximum Diameter Line Style
Width 2 -
Select the
node and set the following properties:
Node Property Setting Cumulative Droplet Size Distribution Title Cumulative Droplet Size Distribution Title Maximum Diameter (m) Title Droplet Volume (m^3)
The cumulative distribution plot appears as shown below:

This plot shows the total volume of hexane in all of the droplets that are below any given diameter. For example, you can see that a total of one milliliter (one cm3 or 10-6 m3) of hexane is contained in all of the droplets that are below 2.3 mm in diameter.
