Generating the Mesh

In this tutorial, you mesh the imported part with 3D solid wedge elements using the Tetrahedral Mesher and the Thin Mesher.

Add an automated mesh operation and select the relevant meshers:
  1. Right-click the Geometry > Operations node and select New > Mesh > Automated Mesh.
  2. In the Create Automated Mesh Operation dialog, select Plate from the Parts list, then select the following meshers:
    Group Mesher
    Surface Meshers Surface Remesher
    Core Volume Meshers Tetrahedral Mesher
    Optional Volume Meshers Thin Mesher
  3. Click OK.
Specify reference values for the element surfaces and the number of thin layers that the Thin Mesher adds through the plate thickness:
  1. Edit the Operations > Automated Mesh > Default Controls node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Base Size Value 0.05 m
Minimum Surface Size Percentage of Base 50
Number of Thin Layers Number of Layers 1
  2. Execute the mesh operation.
You can visualize the mesh with a method of your choice, such as creating a mesh scene.

Add mid-side vertices to the mesh:
  1. Select the Regions > Plate > Physics Conditions > Mid-side Vertex Option and set Mid-side Vertex to Add - Linear Interpolation.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ will generate the mid-side vertices when you run the simulation.
