FSI and 6-DOF Motion: Stress Analysis on Boat Propeller
In fluid-structure interaction simulations, you can define the motion of a solid structure relative to the motion of a 6-DOF body. A typical application is the analysis of the mechanical stresses on propellers attached to marine vessels.
In this simulation, you model a sports boat with two propellers. To simulate the motion of the boat and its components, you model the system as a 6-DOF rigid body. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ calculates the motion of the 6-DOF rigid body based on the applied fluid forces and moments, and applies this motion to the surrounding fluid. Additionally, you model the propeller as a non-rigid solid structure that follows the 6-DOF motion and has an additional, prescribed, rotation motion. The solid propeller can deform under the applied fluid loads.

As the problem is symmetric, you model one-half of the full geometry.
