Determining if Geometry is Thin or Bulk
The Thin Mesher meshes as much of a region or part as possible using prism cells. For any areas where the Thin Mesher cannot produce prism cells, polyhedral or tetrahedral cells are generated – depending on the core volume mesher that is used.
When using the Parts-Based meshing approach, you can set the Thin Mesher to identify thin parts automatically, specify all parts as thin, or specify particular parts as thin.
If the automatic behavior of the Thin Mesher is not suitable, you can manually specify an area as thin or bulk as described below:
To Specify a Part as Thin:
By default, the Thin Mesher Property, Automatic Thin/Bulk Shape Detection, is deactivated causing all parts to be recognized as thin. However, if you activate this property, the parts are identified as thin or bulk automatically. See Thin Mesh Expert Properties.
- Create a Part Control and set Parts to the parts which you want to specify as thin.
- Select the Specify Custom Values. This setting forces the mesher to recognize the part as thin. node and set Thin Mesher to
- If necessary, you can then customize the Thin Mesher Properties. Select the
Properties that you want to customize.
For each custom thin property that you activate, a node appears under
which allows you to specify a custom value.

To Specify a Part as Bulk:
- Create a Part Control and set Parts to the parts which you want to specify as bulk.
- Select the

The parts that are selected are forced to be recognized as bulk.
