Creating Additional Volume Distributions

After you have specified a patch mesh (1-1 Directed Meshing only) or an existing mesh for the source surfaces, you define the volume mesh distribution to the parts through which Simcenter STAR-CCM+ sweeps the source. If required, you can define different mesh sweeps for specific parts by creating additional distributions.

Both types of distribution set the number of cell layers that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates throughout the volume, and how it computes their sizes.
To create an additional cell-layer distribution:
  1. Create a new volume distribution using one of the following approaches:
    • Right-click the Mesh Distributions node and select New Volume Distribution.

    • Right-click the guide surface in the Graphics window and select Part Collection > New Volume Distribution.

  2. In the Parts for creating a new mesh distribution dialog, select the Connected Parts to which you want to apply the distribution.
You can apply the same distribution to any number of connected parts, regardless of how the source surface mesh is defined. Any connected parts you assign to the volume distribution are removed from the default distribution. If you delete the volume distribution, the parts are reassigned to the default distribution.

  3. Define how the swept cell layers are generated between the source and target surfaces.
The cell layer definition for a user-defined volume distribution is identical to the default distribution. For more information, see Directed Mesher Workflow.
To delete a volume distribution from within the directed mesher menu:
  • Right-click the guide surface in the Graphics window and select Part Collection > Delete Volume Distribution.

  • Alternatively, right-click the Mesh Distributions > Volume Distribution node and select Delete.
NoteYou are unable to delete the Default Distribution.
