Exporting the Complete Surface

You can export any surface representation to one of multiple file formats.

When remeshing a region using the Parts-Based meshing approach, a description is created instead of a representation. To export a surface description, see Exporting Mesh Descriptions.

To export the complete surface representation:

  1. Right-click on the representation node of interest and select Export Surface... from the pop-up menu:

    The Save dialog appears:

  2. Select the file type from the Files of Type pull-down menu.
  3. Enter the File Name and click Save.

Before the file is saved, details that are particular to the file format can be required. When using the Nastran file type, the default option is to export the geometry using the Extended file format, which provides greater node precision (G16.9) as compared to the Standard option (E8.3). A loss in surface quality is therefore encountered with the latter.

An export only format (XML Boundary Grouping) is allowed here if you wish to reconstruct the regions/boundaries hierarchy that is established in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Reconstruction is possible when the surface patch data (exported using any of the other allowable formats) is imported into a third-party package that also supports the XML boundary grouping format.
