Enforcing Overset Mass Conservation
Although mass is not strictly conserved in the vicinity of the overset interface, additional techniques are available that mitigate the imbalance. To enforce mass conservation for the overset grid method, you must select the appropriate conservation method.
After creating at least one overset interface between a background and an overset region, an Overset Conservation node (for single phase flow) or an Overset Multiphase Conservation node (for multiphase flow with the Volume of Fluid model) appears under the node.

selected.
node and set
Flow Solver Conservation Option Segregated Flow - None
- Flux Correction (low compression)
- Mass Tracking (high compression)
Coupled Flow - None
- Mass Tracking (high compression)
For more details of the methods refer to Overset Mass Conservation. For details of the settings, see Overset Conservation Reference.

Select the Conservation
Option to one of the following options:
node and set
Flow Solver Conservation Option Segregated Flow In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, the multiphase model always requires the segregated flow solver.
- None
- Mass Tracking (high compression)
Note The Overset Multiphase Conservation is only valid for the Volume of Fluid Multiphase model in the absence of evaporation. For details, see Overset Conservation Reference.
