Design Plots Reference

The following properties and right-click actions are available for XY plots and Parallel Coordinates plots in Design Manager.

Plots Properties

Object Properties
Plots
Plots
Specifies the number of project plots in the Design Manager project (read-only).
Output Verbosity
Provides additional output in the Output window during the run.
[plot]
Title
Specifies the title of the project plot, which appears centered at the top of the plot. Its position and format attributes cannot currently be modified. To remove the title, set this value to blank.
Tags
Specifies the tags for the project plot. For more information, see Tagging Simulation Objects.
Antialiasing
Controls appearance of labels to visual quality. When On, blends the edge of the characters with the background, creating a smoother appearance on screen. When Off, causes edges of characters to remain sharp, allowing for better printing.
Hover Interactions
When On, causes the display to respond to mouse hovering. When Off, leaves the display at its default, with no response to hovering.
Show Highlights
When On, highlights objects that you select in the plot tree in the plot display.
Title Font
Specifies the font family, font style and font size. Use the customizer to activate a dialog to set this property (changing the text will have no effect).
Footer
A text box in which you can type a footer for the plot.
Footer Font
The font family, font style and font size of the footer. Use the customizer to activate a dialog to set this property (changing the text will have no effect).
Data Series Order
Specifies the order of appearance of data series in the plot display. See Changing the Order of Multiple Data Series.
Tooltip Display (only for Parallel Coordinates plots)
Controls the information that is displayed in the tooltip when hovering over data lines in the plot display. The following options are available:
  • Aggregated Totals Only: Displays the number of aggregated data lines under the cursor for each data series.
  • First Hit: In addition to the aggregated hit totals, displays the variable values of the first data line under the cursor. The first data line is the last rendered line in the last rendered data series.
  • First Two Hits: Displays the aggregated hit totals and the variable values of the first two data lines under the cursor.
  • First Three Hits: Displays the aggregated hit totals and the variable values of the first three data lines under the cursor.
Aspect Ratio
Specifies the ratio of width to height of the plot display. The following options are available:
  • Fit Screen
  • 16:9
  • 16:10
  • 4:3
  • 1:1
The default is Fit Screen. The selection of any of the other aspect ratios can leave blank spaces in the graphics display.
Orientation
Chooses between Landscape and Portrait.
Data SeriesNone.
[data series]See Data Series Reference.
Axes (for XY plots) / Coordinates (for Parallel Coordinates plots) See Customizing Plots.
[axis]
x-Position (only for Parallel Coordinates plots)
Specifies the relative x-position of the axis in the plot display in the interval [0,1].

See Customizing Plots.

Plots Right-Click Actions

Object Right-Click Actions
Plots
New Plot > [plot type]
Creates a new project plot. The following plot types are available:
Open All Plots
Displays all project plots in the Graphics window.
New Group
Facilitates the grouping of project plots by creating a new group node within the manager node.
Group By
Allows you to group project plots according to any of the properties of the plots in the manager node and Design Study, listed in a sub-menu of this menu item.
Ungroup
Reverses the grouping process.
[plot]
Quick Setup (only for Parallel Coordinates plots)
Opens the Parallel Coordinates Quick Setup dialog to set the following properties:
  • Data Providers: Specifies the design study whose designs you want to display in the plot.
  • Axis Data: Specifies the design data (design number and design status), input parameters, and responses that you want to extract from the designs and display on the axes of the plot.
  • Axis Order: Specifies the order of the axes in the plot—the first entry in the list is the leftmost axis in the plot. You can change the order of axes using the Order buttons.
  • Show axis labels and ticks: When Off, hides the axis labels and ticks on all the axes in the plot. Plots without axes labels and ticks allow a faster interaction with the plot in the Graphics window (for example when interactively changing the position of an axis).
Respan Axes (only for Parallel Coordinates plots)
Moves the axes horizontally so that they are equidistant.
Open
Displays the selected project plot in the Grapics window.
Reorder Data Series
Activates a dialog in which you adjust the order of appearance of data series in the project plot.
If the project plot display contains multiple data series, you can control the order in which each data series is displayed relative to the rest. This control is important for plots where data series overlap. You can see the order of data series in three places in the workspace: the plot display, the legend, and the node tree.
See Changing the Order of Multiple Data Series.
Tabulate
Displays all data series in the project plot in pairs of X and Y value columns in a table.
Export
Exports the data that are displayed in the project plot. This action uses an operating system-specific standard Save dialog to store the data points of the plot to file. The exported file is written as comma separated values (.csv)—a format supported by many spreadsheets.
Export as Scene (*.sce)
Exports the project plot to a Viewer file (.sce), which allows you to work with the same three-dimensional image that you had in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. You can open a *.sce file in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer.
Hardcopy
Saves the project plot to an image file. A customized, operating system-specific Save To File dialog appears, allowing you to write the selected plot to file.
Hardcopy to Clipboard
Copies the image file of the project plot to the system clipboard.
Apply Plot Options
Sets preferred plot attributes.
Assign Colors
Applies the current Color Assignment settings to the project plot.
Set New Tag...
Creates a new tag and adds it to the selected project plot. For more information, see Tagging Simulation Objects.
Set Tags > [tag]
Allows you to set a new tag or a previously created tag to the selected project plot.
Data Series
Add Data
Allows you to add data of a design study to the project plot.
Reorder Data Series
As for [plot].
[data series]See Data Series Reference.

[axis]
Edit referencing axis types... (only for Parallel Coordinates plots)
