Specifying Material Properties

Define the equation of state of the compressible fluid by specifying the fluid density in terms of pressure and speed of sound. Also, specify the pipe material.

For the definition of the fluid properties, you are provided with predefined user field functions, that specify the fluid density, the speed of sound in water, and the density pressure derivative as follows:
Field Function Definition
H2O Speed Of Sound c0=1440
H2O Density ρ=1000+pc02
H2O Density Pressure Derivative dρdp=1c02

These field functions do not require units specification, as the correct units are applied when you assign the field functions to the corresponding material properties.

  1. Select the Continua > Fluid Physics > Models > User Defined EOS node and activate Compressible.
To specify the fluid material properties:
  1. Expand the Continua > Fluid Physics > Models > Liquid > H2O node.
  2. Edit the Material Properties node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
Speed of Sound Method Field Function
Field Function Scalar Function H2O Speed Of Sound
    Density Method Field Function
Field Function Scalar Function H2O Density
Density pressure derivative Method Field Function
Field Function Scalar Function H2O Density Pressure Derivative
Select the pipe material from the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ material library:
  1. Right-click the Continua > Solid Physics > Models > Solid > Al node and select Replace with...
  2. In the Replace Material dialog, select Ti (Titanium) from the material database, and click OK.
  3. Save the simulation.
