Replacing Faces

In 3D-CAD, the Replace Face feature is a synchronous modeling feature that allows you to replace one or more faces of a body with another set of faces.

For example, you can use this tool to close gaps between parts. The benefit in using the Replace Face tool is that it generates a new surface with clean edges and allows you to replace one or more source faces with one or more target faces.
  1. To launch the replace face tool:
    • In the graphics window, right-click one of the chosen faces and select Replace Face.
    • In the Features toolbar, click the (Face Feature) option and select Replace Face.
The Replace Face panel appears on the left of the graphics window.
  2. In the 3D-CAD View scene, select the faces that you want to replace—these are known as the Source faces.

  3. To identify the faces that are replacing the source faces (known as the Target faces):
    1. Click inside the Target Faces box.
    2. In the Graphics window, select the target faces. The target faces are highlighted in red.

When (Show Preview) is activated, a yellow color appears showing that the tool can replace these faces.

  4. To remove one or all faces, right-click on the faces in the list and choose the corresponding action.
  5. Click OK.
    The selected faces are replaced.

The image below shows an example where the replace face tool was used to close the gap between the strap and the fuel tank.
