Analyzing the Channel Flow Results

At the end of the simulation, you judge the quality of the optimization by looking at the velocity vector field and by extracting the pressure drop value of the converged solution.

To analyze the channel flow results:
  1. Examine the velocity vector field:
    1. Open the Velocity scene.
    2. In the Scene/Plot tab, select the Vector 1 > Parts node and select all regions and boundaries.
    3. Select the Vector Field node and set Function to Velocity > Lab Reference Frame.

Fluid velocity is highest in the outlet channel where the velocity vectors exhibit a uniform flow pattern.

  2. Right-click the Reports > Pressure Drop node and select Run Report.
In the output window, you obtain the pressure drop between the inlet and the outlet for the optimized channel which is around 0.6 Pa. This value is significantly lower than the baseline pressure drop of 1.9 Pa. The channel has optimal shape with regard to pressure drop minimization.
