Merging Edges

In some geometries an edge can be composed of multiple shorter edges rather being one continuous edge. This composition can negatively impact meshing, freeform constraints, and 3D-CAD operations.

3D-CAD provides the Merge Edges feature that converts a chain of short edges into a single edge.

To merge a sequence of short edges:

  1. In the graphics window, select a sequence of short edges that form a smooth chain with less than 5 degrees angle between the end of one edge and the start of the next.
  2. To launch the feature:
    • Right-click the Features node in the 3D-CAD simulation tree and select Repair Tools > Merge Edges.
    • In the graphics window, right-click on one of the chosen edges and select Repair Tools > Merge Edges.
A Merge Edges panel appears on the left of the Graphic window.

  3. You can add to the edge selection by clicking within the Edges to Merge box, then press <CTRL> and select further edges in the graphics window.
When Show Preview is activated, a yellow color appears along the chosen edges which shows that the function can merge these edges.

  4. To remove one or all edges, right-click on edges in the list and choose the corresponding action.
  5. Click OK.
    The selected edges are merged.
