Zipping Edges
In 3D-CAD, the edge zipper tool can be used to remove gaps. These gaps are usually found on parts imported from CAD systems where the native format permits faces to fit together loosely.
-
To launch the edge zipper tool:
- In the graphics window, right-click on one of the chosen edges and select .
- In the Features toolbar, click the
(Repair Tool) option and select
(Zip Edges).
The Zip Edges panel appears on the left of the graphics window. -
There are two options from which you can choose to zip edges:
- Between Two Edge
Sets - allows you to zip two sets of
edges from two different sheet bodies. You are
advised to use this option when there are more than
two edges and multiple ways of grouping the edges.
To assist in selecting edges, you can use the exploded view mode. For more information, see Creating Exploded Views.
The image below shows an example where the edge zipper tool is used to close a gap between two sets of edges from two different sheet bodies. The second image shows an exploded view where the source edges highlighted in blue are zipped to the target edges highlighted in red.
- Loop of Edges -
allows you to zip edges from the same sheet body
where the edges virtually form a loop. The image below shows an example where the edge zipper tool is used to close a small gap.
- Between Two Edge
Sets - allows you to zip two sets of
edges from two different sheet bodies. You are
advised to use this option when there are more than
two edges and multiple ways of grouping the edges.
- To remove one or all of your selections, right-click the selection in the list and choose the corresponding action.
-
To select additional edges, press <CTRL> and select the
edges within the graphics window. These selections are added
to the box under Zip Type.
For rapid selection, double-click an edge to select other edges that are connected and tangent to it.
- If you want to form a solid body after executing the Zip Edges operation, activate Attempt to Form Solid.
- In the Zip Edges panel, click OK.
